What’s the point?
Use your phone as a webcam without the worry of wires tangling you up. You can place it up to 10 metres from your PC too, so there’s plenty of opportunity for mischief.
Is it free?
Not quite, but $20 is cheaper than any dedicated PC webcam you’ll find, and this is wireless!
Sold! How do I do it?
Step 1: Download Mobiola from
Warelex.com. It’s some fancy software that sits on your phone and PC and makes your phone spit pictures wirelessly to your Bluetooth-enabled computer.
You’ll need to unpack the group of files that form the download and transfer the phone app (that’s the file ending in .sis) to your handset. Install it like any other app, then set it to one side and install the PC portion (that’s the file ending in ‘.exe’).
Step 2: Follow all the on-screen instructions and get Mobiola’s PC portion running. Switch on your PC’s Bluetooth (or plug in the dongle, if that’s your thing) and head back to your phone.
Step 3: Hit ‘Options’ then ‘Connect’ and ‘Bluetooth’. Your phone will scan for devices nearby and should find your computer. If it doesn’t, head to the control panel, choose Bluetooth and make sure your computer is set in discoverable mode, then try again.
Step 4: You should see the view from your phone’s camera on the PC screen now. If you’re using the demo you’ll be limited to five minutes of action from here on in, but if you’ve slapped down the $20 registration fee you’ll be able to fire up your favourite chat program and use your phone as a proper webcam!
