DVD drive giving sound problems

Guys..i shifted a while back...and my pc was with me the whole time..( on the flights)....i am having a problem now..whenever i put in a dvd into the dvd drive....the sound screws up...not only for the dvd..but even if i play some other file on my computer..the sound is really wierd.....as soon as i remove the dvd from inside..the sound goes back to normal.......i am really confused...i know have to copy the video files from a dvd onto my computer and then view....what can be the reason? damage from the inside?...and in that case only solution would be to get it replaced rite?..

Well the problem seems to be with the lens of the DVD Drive.. the lens is located in such a position from where it can throw the laser spending the least amount of time...in simple it almost touches the DVD or CD.... if you have got scratches on the DVD then its the lens...

otherwise you can get it repaired...

if i recall it was only doing when he playeed videos in vlc. simple uninstall and install vlc.
