Re: msn connection problem

Hi mate, when you say it doesnt work do you mean that the actual camera isnt working or you that when your chatting the other person cant see you? If its the laterthen a common problem is that you and the other person are using different versions of messenger.

You can check this by opeing messenger and clicking the help option at the top, then click on "about messenger" this should give you your version, get the person you are chatting to to do the same, if they are the same then message back and we'll try something else.

Re: msn connection problem

If your saying that the webcam works fine when you are using a cable connected to your router but goes funny when you use your wireless connection then, yes, it could mean the wireless signal is too poor.

I imagine your using a 802.11g card and router, the newer 802.11n claims to be faster and have a better range so you may want to have a look at upgrading your stuff.

Other options include wiring a "patch" cable through your home to where ever you are using your computer, they come in most lenghts upto 100m, I think, or possibly a signal reapter, these take your signal and amplify it so that the range is increased.

Quick question, is your wireless connection good enough to use the cam if you sit closer to the router? or is it the same no matter where you go?

Re: msn connection problem

ooohh I see, well if they don't know that your piggy backing their connection, which is ilegal by the way, then I'm not sure how you can go about improving it. You may improve it by installing a new wireless adapter, some of the newer usb ones claim to improve reception but its a gamble. If they know about you borrowing their connection then you may want to have a look at getting a signal reapter, this may improve it a little, you could also ask them if they could try the router in a different place to see if things improve.

If its an unsecured line and they dont know about you then I dont see that its worth forking out any money to improve it because they may choose, in the future, to add encryption, that would leave you without a connection and out of pocket.

if its ur neighbor's connection then u shud go and kick his butt for buying such a cheap connection, then order him to buy a higher bandwidth connection. if he doesn't agree then threaten the internet company to increase ur neighbor's bandwidth....if nothing works then search for another neighbor who will agree....those r all the options I can think of to increase bandwidth on a free unsecured connection.
