Why is death so scary? And is oblivion worse than hell?
The most humbling symptom of the human condition is that ultimately we're rendered helpless before that one irrefutable truth, that of death.
But rather than accept and embrace this inevitability we see it as an injustice and do everything in our power to delay it. As a race we live in the hope that science can some day overcome it but why?
What good does it do us to run from something we can't escape?
I know nobody knows for certain what happens after death and that for all we know we could end up in state of eternal torment in hell or we could just as easily cease to exist.
But which would be worse?
Would you rather suffer eternal torment in hell but at least be alive and sentient or would you prefer to cease to exist and slip into a blissful oblivion?
