Surviving the War
Every day another battle rages on,
and it always begins at the crack of dawn,
the battle lasts throughout the day,
until the sky above us turns to gray.
All around me I see my brothers fall,
one of them still holding his little girl's doll,
I bow my head and begin to weep,
for this is only the beginning of the Reap.
I wonder if I'll make it home alive,
I wonder if I'll live to love and be able to thrive,
perhaps I will be blessed with a daughter or a son,
but none of that can happen until this war is done.
Several months later I made it out,
I had survived the war, without a doubt,
I stepped of the boat and into New York City,
a city that in my eyes was worthy of pity.
I walked around looking for a place to stay,
that was when I became somebody's prey,
I was stabbed six times and my wallet was taken,
I had fought to protect this country, but in the end I had been forsaken.
