Is IPL right to deny AKhtar chance to play in IPL?
IPL has decided that Akhtar won't be allowed to play in IPL despite PCB stating unequivocally that they have no objection to this and Akhtar is free to play in IPL. Furthermore IPL also rejected personal request of PCB board chairman Naseem Ashraf. This basically hinders Akhtar's ability to make a living and this is non acceptable. Make no doubt I am not Akhtar fan and he deserved the ban but one shouldn't be able to block some one's ability to make living.
IPL original premise was that no player can play cricket in the tournament without the NOC from thier respective boards (which btw they were willing to waive to sign up Aussies players when it appeared that Aussie board was holding out, Lalit Modi went on record that aussies players can sign up without NOC). PCB has given that to Akhtar. Now IPL states that the player must be eligible to play for their home team. This is ludricious, IPL falls under ICC and should follow board decision not make rules on the fly. Beside effecting Akhtar, IPL is putting PCB in awkward position. Now if they keep the ban Akhtar hass no job and no way of making a living and if they lift the ban then they look like idiots.
IPL should run the tournament and only look at NOC if the player board has no objection they shouldn't have any. A player should be able to make a living and thats the bottom line.
