Should Yosef retires from ODI?

Mohammad yosef did an incredible feat last year when he accumulated most runs in a calender year. It no jokes folks to score these many runs dun matter who the opposition is. Yosef is a very good batsman and after inzi's departure he is the backbone of Pakistan batting. That said I think its time for him to retire from ODI but stay in test. My reasons are following.

1 - Yosef sucks at fielding, in today's high pace 20/20 influenced ODI he just concede way too many runs.

2 - Batting wise he is too slow to start, he does score and does get his strike rate up, but his strike rate is only 74% in ODI, at # 4 thats just too slow. That put pressure on other batsman to keep up the over rate and cause us to loose wkts.

3 - Since pak team is in transition phase, with new young captain, why not give a chance to solid batsman who is young, Yasir Hameed, Faisal Iqbal and Asim Kamal just few names that pop out in my mind, I am sure there are others. What you guys think?

Re: Should Yosef retires from ODI?

no i dont think he should retire, however they sure need to do somthing with that line up... younis and yousef the 2 Y's or Y square! when they both get on the pitch, my God they start to play like a test match... either shoaib malik has to come in between them or perhaps they can try sending misbah after younis... the game just slows down when they both r in themiddle.

Re: Should Yosef retires from ODI?

To be honest, Yousuf usally anchors the innings. He makes a slowish (70-85 strike rate) 50+ runs. When he does make his 50+ runs it allows others around him to bat more aggressively, knowing he will be there to steady the innings if they happen to get out. You need a solid batter, who can score but not get out. Also you say he's too slow to start, but when he gets going doesn't he score quickly? He raises his strike rate drastically later in his innings. Looking at their current sqaud, there is no-one to fill that solid batter's spot. Not even Younus, my fav player, is as solid or as consistent as Yousuf. You don't get such a high average for nothing. Keep Yousuf in the ODI team.

hmm im not sure bout retire but he shud either be dropped for a certain amount of time , OR learn to pick up the run rate when required of him , which is most usually every time cos of his slow run rate , he needs to play positively u can say

Re: Should Yosef retires from ODI?

I think he does pick up the rr when required...even 3rd odi..he was batting at a good rr..anyways lets see next two matches..decisions should not be made at a time when team is struggling or a player is struggling. You need to see a a good innings..and then check rr and if he played for team etc.
