Appeal against umpire's decision??!!
Well...well...welll.....there have been way too many bad decisions in both the test and odi series involving india and england.......both the team got some really bad decisions....the main umpire's in question are - howler, tauffel, dar....
Those three are world class umpire's with tauffel and dar ranked 1st and 2nd respectively....but....they are human and are bound to give some bad decisions......ok...for example the final match at lord's....everyone knew that tendulkar was the key player for india and he was given out.....to a questionable decision.........................everyone knew that......sachin was the first one to know that.......cant he tell his captain and appeal against the decision........Come on...lets be fair...if he was not out he should have the rights to do that......well probably the captain should have the rights to do that.......
As our good friend Cyborg mentioned...umpiring has been done with naked eyes for the last 200years and it should stay like that.......but was the technology so good at that time....no way! there was hardly any technology....but now people know if its out or not out............!........anyways...i have written enough ...please reply and vote...
Should the captain be given a chance to appeal against the umpire's decision?

Re: Appeal against umpire's decision??!!
noway umpire should have a final say, specially when t comes to lbw and catches, as dravid himself said the technology is not perfect. one should remember hawkeye is an approximation i,e if the bal is shown to clip the outside off off stump it doesn't mean that it will 100% hit the stump or even if it hit it will dislodge the bells. how many times we have seen bells not been dislodged. Current laws make use of tried n verified technology ie to see if the fielder while stopping the ball has crossed the boundry, a catch is taken cleanly or a run out, we have seen also in last game a run out wasn't given of porwar cuz it was doubtful. Technology is not perfect there are many things n umpire have to take in consideration the aspect of picth the bounce the angle length and he has to make split second decisions, sometimes thye make bad decisions sometimes they make excellent decisions. Shit happens deal with it

Even with the best technology we have just now, you can't tell certain things. Like Cyborg says, hawkeye gives an idea, but you can't be pedantic about a lot of what it shows.
The best TV replays don't always show if a ball has carried to a fielder for a catch. The naked eye is faster than any technology, so I'd leave it to the umpires!

In fact, some of the technology undermines the umpire's authority,in my opinion.

yea....its only the decisions that can be really clear....snickometer mostly gives the correct thing...you can be sure if there is an edge or not......imagine there is an inside edge onto the pads.......and the umpire doesnt see it...that can be confirmed...

Re: Appeal against umpire's decision??!!
apparently u not getting it superman, i wonder why? how much u wana bet if it wasnt for tendu we wouldn't be having this discussion, but since we having it so lets get some facts straight
1 - Sachin is human not a god (shocked? it will pass over trust me lol)
ok coming back to the point, wat technology to use and when?
1st the argument that captains should have a right to challenge the decision.
a) how many challenges he should be allowed? what if u run out of challenges and all of a sudden now u have a situation where there is a decent chance that a 2nd look at the decision would make the difference,u say tough luck? what if its WC final match and that decision can make the difference btween champion ship? too bad ur out of challenges. u might say well u can always ask the umpire no thats a challenge n now that u have 3 challenges why u asking from umpire or arguing against a decision. The challenge rule will effectively terminate any debate, once umpire decision in you can either challenge or shutup, cuz if u can stuill talk to umpire then wats the point of challenges? get it?
b) no hawkeye can ever make | |
