INTERVIEW WITH Sreesanth
London: A historic series win in England recently and one of the man who made a lot of headlines in that series is S Sreesanth.
And as India searched desperately for wickets during the first One-Dayer, skipper Rahul Dravid's thoughts would have possibly turned to Sreesanth, who wasn't in the squad.
Sreesanth has been left out of the One-Day squad but remains hopeful of a comeback soon. He spoke exclusively to CNN-IBN Sports Editor Gaurav Kalra in London recently.
Gaurav Kalra: You stayed back in England for something. Tell us what this is about?
Sreesanth: It is about super-skills. It is very interesting and lots of fun, where you get to meet a lot of legends. Actually, it's lot of very good cricketers around the world. So, I think it is a great opportunity and lots of fun and lots of colour.
Gaurav Kalra: You have used the word 'lots of colours', You had a colourful series in England. But before we talk about anything else, describe what happened on the last day after you guys realised that you had won. What was that like?
Sreesanth: I think it is really prestigious for us. It was really god's grace - it was a great series victory as it was after 21 years. So, I was very fortunate and lucky enough to be in the West Indies series win and victory in South Africa as well. But then we started realising in the dressing room - the way everyone - Anil Bhai and everyone - it was just amazing. I hope it keep coming again and again.
Gaurav Kalra: There have been some talks that sometimes you go little bit over the top, when you are almost performing as much for the cameras. That maybe a little bit of a over statement but how do you view it? Is that a personality thing or are you trying to do something extra on a cricket field?
Sreesanth: No, I don't think so. No one has seen me from days. If you ask my school-mates, they would say that I am the same. There were no cameras there. In fact, there would hardly be a single person watching the game, even in Ranji trophy match or in the Kerala matches, but I have always been the same since the time I have started playing and I don't see any change in myself. But now, after getting warned - I don't want to miss a game, specially for the team. I don't want to miss any Test match or One-day match.
I had to change the expertise in the last game and I think I did pretty well in the last game - not only in terms of playing well but was also trying to be a different Sreesanth in the last game. I think it worked and maybe I think I should change for the good. In fact, I will and I am sure for the team.
Gaurav Kalra: You must be disappointed to have missed the One-Day series because cricketers like you always wants to be part of the action. What are your thoughts on that?
Sreesanth: There are things that are out of my control. I think whatever happens is for a reason. And I think I need to improve in the One-day cricket and I should accept it. I think that the best team is playing right now.
If I have to improve, it is good opportunity where I can get back to the basics and learn from it rather than sulking about it. However, I was disappointed but there is no point looking back and saying 'Oh I wish I could have been.' But now, when I get the next chance I should make sure that I grab it with both hands and I show the world that Sreesanth is back.
