Asif happy on getting the vice captaincy
KARACHI: Pakistan’s newly appointed vice captain Mohammad Asif, expressing his delight on getting the important position, said it will be an honour for him to be deputy of the side and added he was ready to give his best for the team in the coming one-day series against Sri Lanka.
“I am happy to be named as vice captain of the side and there will be no pressure on me after getting vital place in the team as it will not harm my performance,†the fast bowler told a TV channel in an interview.
Asif was named deputy to skipper Shoaib Malik for the three-match series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi from May 18-22. This will be the first assignment for both the players as vice captain and captain.
The talented fast bowler who missed the Caribbean World Cup due to an elbow injury said he was fully fit and looking forward to give winning performance for Pakistan against the islanders. “I am hundred percent fit and eager to give my best in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka,†he said.
He pointed out that the team needs support from all the players in order to retain the lost standard of the side after the World Cup debacle.
“All the players have to show their performance in the coming series in order to get some respite after the World Cup.â€
Pakistan was the first team to make exit in the just concluded quadrennial competition where the team went out of the event within just five days after losing to West Indies and minnows Ireland.
