Lots of packets being sent from free proxy servers

Hi guys, I am having this weird problem. Few days back I was trying to download sth from rapidshare and used free proxies to beat the rapidshare timer (I am assuming ppl who might be able to help me know what proxies are). Everything was good till then but 1-2 days after that also on rebooting my computer I was seeing lots of packets being sent to my computer from some random sites. Thanks to my firewall which was blocking all of them but I was continuously receiving lot of packets non-stop. On checking few ip addresses of where the packets were coming from, they were all coming from these free proxies.

I tried plenty of things to prevent this but the only way that helped me was changing my intranet IP address domain 192.168.x.x to 172.x.x.x as those proxies were sending packets to my 192.168.x.x IP address. Also these packets were coming only on my computer on the intranet.

I am good for now using the 172.x.x.x domain IP address but can anyone help me in understanding how this was happening and how can I stop it?
P.S.: I've ran a complete system check with Adaware, spybot and an enterprise level anti-virus but didn't find anything.
